The Chapman EmpowerHER Award for Black Excellence in Animal Care 

Founded by Asia Chapman, CEO- Four Paws Down ATL 

Support. Opportunity. Empowerment.

    This scholarship celebrates Black women pursuing careers that uplift and protect the well-being of animals. Whether you're studying veterinary medicine, animal science, grooming, wildlife biology, or any animal-related program, we see you, and we support your journey.

    Two $250 awards will be granted to students, and A mentor experience at Four Paws Down ATL in Atlanta, Georgia, working directly with founder Asia Chapman

    During the mentorship experience, recipients will:

    • Gain hands-on experience in professional grooming

    • Learn about animal wellness and handling

    • Practice client communication and customer care

    • Discuss entrepreneurship and career growth in the animal industry 

    • Build confidence navigating a field where Black women are underrepresented.

    Winners will be notified by email.

    Scholarship funds are distributed directly to the student.

    Eligibility Requirements​

    Applicants must:

    • Identify as a Black woman or female student

    • Be currently enrolled in OR accepted to an accredited college or university

    • Be pursuing a major/program related to animal care
      (veterinary, grooming, animal science, biology, wildlife, animal behavior, etc.)

    • Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA

    • Submit an essay OR video answering one of the prompt options below

    1. Bridging the Gap Between People and Pets: Animals often help bridge emotional, physical, or social gaps in people’s lives. Describe how you plan to advocate for both animals and their humans in your future role.

    2. What’s Missing:If you could change one thing in the animal care industry, what would it be, and how do you plan to be part of that change?

    3. Healing Through Helping: Has working with animals helped you overcome personal struggles or grow as a person? Tell us how your bond with animals has shaped your healing or identity.
